Correctly chosen, a two-way radio system will considerably increase a company’s operational efficiency by eliminating wastage of time and fuel.  Most users find that the savings achieved, repay the cost of the equipment within one year of operation – plus the bonus of convenience, upon which it is impossible to put an exact value.

WHICH SYSTEM WILL BE BEST FOR ME ?

Several options are available, and these are described in the Systems Comparison Section.  Choosing the best system from these options will depend on several considerations, including the number of people using the system, it’s operational range and number of calls.  The cellular and car phone options give extensive coverage and access to the public telephone network.  These are ideal for key persons in an organization which operate over a range, which cannot be achieved with a private system or community repeater.  Cell phones are not economical for communication between several members of staff in a restricted geographical area.  The latest technology two-way radio systems are the answer in these circumstances, both in terms of operational facility and call costs – private systems and Wrekin Communications community repeater do not attract any call charges.  Wrekin Communications offer all the options contained in the Systems Comparison Section and will be pleased to advise you.  It is now possible to have direct data printouts in mobiles transmitted from your office.  This enables complex messages to be given to mobiles with complete confidentiality.

OPERATIONAL RANGE

The question of operating range is continually raised    Due to the many variables affecting the overall performance it is difficult to answer with absolute certainty.  Wrekin Communications will advise on local conditions and undertake surveys to confirm actual performance.    We can also provide computer predictions to give some indication of likely performance of any given system.  This free service is offered without obligation to potential customers.

HAND PORTABLES OR MOBILES ?

Hand-portables are normally used for applications where communication is required in defined areas e.g. airports, warehouses, factories etc

Mobile units are normally used for repeater applications and private systems to give the maximum geographical coverage.

 LICENSING AND APPROVALS

Most equipment supplied by Wrekin Communications operates on frequencies and requires a license by the Radio Communications Agency.  Specific operating frequencies* (*Not SRBR or PMR446) are allocated to each user on a regional basis to reduce interference between users.  Our equipment is DTI. Approved, and designed to withstand the rigors of operation in vehicles ranging from cars, motorcycles, agricultural machinery, commercial vehicles and heavy plant.  In the unlikely event of breakdowns, we maintain a fully equipped workshop and fully trained service engineers to deal with any problems rapidly.

SYSTEMS COMPARISON

PRIVATE SYSTEM (OWN BASE)

A system for the exclusive use of the user, using a base station and mobiles or hand portables as required.  The base is located at the users site and range is determined by its actual geographical location.  There are no restrictions on call duration and timing, or the number of radios that can be accommodated on the system

 PRIVATE SYSTEM (COMMS SITE)

A system similar to above with base station located at a prime communications site, whose geographical location gives enhanced area coverage.  Your office is usually linked to the base unit by a rented British Telecom direct line.  Recent changes in licencing policy may make the use of “Reverse Frequency Working” possible if the Radio Communications Agency allow its use on your system. Range is similar to a repeater located at the same site.  There are no restrictions on call duration or timing or the number of units used

SHORT RANGE BUSINESS RADIO  SRBR  *

A service designed for business users who require short range communication anywhere in the UK.    Equipment is pre-programmed and is licensed by a single fee of £30.00 for 3 years for an unlimited number of radios.  This type of license is not exclusive to the user but the radios do have a number of alternative channels if interference is experienced.  In ideal conditions ranges of up to 2 miles may be achieved.

THIS LICENCE HAS NOW BEEN WITHDRAWN FOR FURTHER USE.    CONTACT US FOR ADVICE ON HOW TO UPGRADE.

PMR 446  Licence FREE

This Licence was issued  by the Radio communications Agency in 1999.. It allows ANYONE to use these frequencies for any purpose e.g. business or leisure throughout most countries in Europe. There are 8 frequencies allowed and 38 CTCSS tones making 304 channel combinations.  Users should find a free channel wherever they are. Range is up to 2 miles in open country.. The Licence is unprotected and should not be used for life critical applications. Equipment ranges from the basic product of poor quality similar to CB's to professional radios identical to commercial PMR.  The Maxon SL25 is approved for SRBR, PMR446 and commercial private Licence PMR.  This radio offers the user a unique migration path to other licenses as their needs change.

 WREKIN COMMUNICATIONS COMMUNITY REPEATERS  (CBS)

A shared system, similar to the COMMS Site Private System, but with a radio link between your office and the automatic repeater unit.  This makes large savings by avoiding costly land-line rental.  A simple office base station is installed together with the required number of mobiles or hand portables.

A special code, different for each subscriber, is included automatically in the transmissions.  This ensures privacy between users.  The equipment only responds if the appropriate code is included in the transmission. A call duration limit gives fair access to all users.  If the repeater is busy, this is indicated on other users radios by a busy light.

West-mid-Free-Call

Digital Trunked Radio System  MPT1327

A new system operated exclusively by Wrekin Communications in Shropshire that now supersedes the traditional CBS systems.   This system allows  faster access and includes telephone interconnect for incoming calls as standard at no extra cost.   The system uses multiple frequencies and allows many users to talk simultaneously.  All users have their own private group, calls between mobile and base are in private so other users in your group cannot hear the conversation. . In addition the base can set up a “Group Call” that allows all users to converse together and hear all conversations.   Unattended vehicle alert is also a standard feature.

 PAGING

Paging offers some benefits that radio may not be able to offer,  Small size pagers that give vibrate and numeric alert can be very useful in noisy environments.  Systems can be from site paging systems to national coverage depending on the need.. Pagers can be linked to automatic alarms giving remote notification of faults or intruder access.  Hotels find pagers very unobtrusive and linking to night service for porters can be very useful.
